I recently had to write a paper/exam for my philosophy class. I had such a great time writing this paper I wish could do it all the time, just the experience makes me all warm inside. Anyone detect sarcasm in that last sentence. I don't think I have ever been so stressed over a school assignment before. Maybe it was the subject matter the exam had on it or maybe just the style of thinking that, I guess, scared me. I think this is the same for most students. Where they can type up anything and feel god about it if its just asked for homework but when a teacher or professor says its an exam the whole mindset about the paper changes. It usually is worth some points but if you look at the big picture, they don't equal a lot. Another problem I think students seem to have, is that they try to compare themselves to other students in the course. I know i do most of these myself and I shouldnt cause it makes writing that much harder, I recognize this now and I am trying to over overcome these faults.
I think a big contributing factor to this stress in writing comes from english classes when we were young. They praise the few students who do well in writing and tend to ignore those who are ok at it and send those whos dont get it to the "special" teachers for more help.
Oh by the way I got a b+ on that paper that I thought I was going to fail. It was awesome.
